Potential customers should be aware of how Puresurfcamps operates. I emailed a request to Puresurfcamps for a private room during the low season in late October 2024. I requested my own room, a surfing package with lessons, and explained that I was a fairly experienced surfer with 3 years experience. I received a reply that this 'Surf Lodge' was full, but that the bungalow at 'Surf camp Algarve' was available for 878 EUR. I read the website, https://www.puresurfcamps.com/en/surf-camps/surf-camps-portugal/surf-camp-algarve/ , I accepted, paid, and was sent a receipt. What I requested versus what I got: - It turned out, that I was sent to 'Funride Surfcamp', which is rather remote in Raposeira. At no time in my email communications did Puresurfcamps tell me I was being sent to Funride surfcamp, and this isn't stated on the puresurfcamps website. I would have checked the reviews of Funride. I have no issue with surf camps referring customers to other camps, but it is not ok to be deceptive or non-transparent about it. I would not have chosen Funride based on location and reviews. - Puresurfcamps charged 878 EUR for 6 nights (146 EUR/night), which it turned out did not include the requested surf lessons. When talking to the volunteers working at Funride, it seems I paid a lot more than if I would have booked directly with Funride. Oh well. The bungalow did not even include internet, which was broken. This made working from home rather difficult. This was not at all value for money. - Funride does not actually offer intermediate/more advanced surf lessons as requested. Also, the camp has no hardboards. Obviously, this was a big disappointment for a surfing holiday, and I did not want to pay their expensive 70 EUR (!) per lesson. At the bottom of puresurfcamps website it says 'surfboards for all levels', which is not true. Response: I talked to the manager of Funride on the first day. He seemed to be understanding and referred me to the puresurfcamps service email address. I politely wrote to Puresurfcamps explaining that situation above and gave some possible suggestions: - Switch me to your other Algarve surf lodge if you have accommodation? - Partial refund for days not used, suggest a different surfcamp in Sagres or I will find my own way. - Any other suggestions welcome! :) The Puresurfcamps response was unhelpful, and I certainly didn't feel I was respected in the circumstances. - I was then told that surf lessons were not included because it is not possible to book a complete surf package in advance at Puresurfcamps. They didn't tell me this in my specific email request with them; - I was told that the booking confirmation states that that Surfcamp Algarve is a partner camp and not our own surf camp. This is not true. The booking confirmation does have a line that says: Persons 1 Funride-Animação Turistica LDA USt-IdNr.: PT506727645. However, this meant nothing to me. Its not uncommon for businesses to be registered under different names than their brand name. Also, this is not stated anywhere on the puresurfcamps website at the time of writing this review. - I was told that I didn't mention that I wanted a stable internet connection to work - which is true. Of course, when a room costs 146/EUR night I expected better, or I wouldn't have booked. - To conclude, I was told that I should have seen these things in the confirmation pdf 24 hours after booking for a refund, after which nothing can be done. To me, it is inappropriate to conceal the above information until someone has made a payment first and only after payment you get these facts. Puresurfcamps will hide behind their terms and conditions in a way few tourist operators would. I suggest customers to do your homework carefully or avoid. Because I learned the hard way with this company.
